avian influenza

In our recent expert session with poultry specialist Professor Sjaak de Wit, he discussed the latest developments in avian influenza. Avian influenza is a major concern for poultry farmers and, increasingly, for public health. Recent infections in dairy cattle in the United States have added to these concerns. Sjaak provided an update on the latest developments in the field. He discussed both high and low pathogenic circulating strains, their clinical outcomes, virulence and the models and tools available to control avian influenza.

Cryptosporidium parvum calf model

Our experts Debora Smits and Erik van Engelen discussed the development and use of the Cryptosporidium parvum calf model. The importance of C. parvum infection, the mechanism of disease and burden of disease will be described. Additionally, they showed how an experimental model gives more insight in the course of infection and gives tools for the evaluation of preventive or curative measures.

Influenza in Pigs

Bovine Respiratory Disease

Salmonella prevention starts with placing salmonella-free animals, in a Salmonella-free house and salmonella-free feed.
